ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the epidemiological characteristics of the dynamic changes of serum FT3, FT4, and TSH levels in patients with hemorrhagic stroke under the age of 45, and to discuss the prognostic evaluation effects and influencing factors of these indicators. Methods From January 2017 to January 2020, 227 patients with multicenter hemorrhagic stroke in our hospital were selected for analysis. Collect and analyze prognosis (death, rebleeding, no adverse prognosis) at baseline and 12 months of follow-up; monitor serum FT3, FT4, and TSH levels during treatment at the same time during follow-up, 7 days after treatment, and 14 days after treatment. Observe the trend characteristics of dynamic changes. The assay method is enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. At the end of the follow-up, the subjects were divided into three groups: death, rebleeding, and no adverse prognosis according to the prognostic outcome of the 12-month short-term follow-up. The epidemiological characteristics of patients with different prognosis and the dynamic change trend of FT3, FT4 and TSH in the same serum were compared. The interconnectedness. Results There were no statistically significant differences in gender and age between the three groups (P>0.05), but the differences in hypertension, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia were statistically significant (P0.05). The FT4 level of the case group was significantly higher than that of the control group at all times (P0.05). The TSH level of the case group was significantly higher than that of the control group at all times (P0.05). With the decrease of the patient's age, the serum FT3 level has a gradually increasing trend, and the serum FT4, TSH level, mortality and rebleeding rate have a gradually decreasing trend (P<0.05). Conclusion The continuous decrease of FT3 level and the continuous increase of FT4 and TSH levels are potentially associated with the poor prognosis of patients with hemorrhagic stroke, which is worthy of clinical attention.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture plus navel acupuncture for patients with urinary retention after radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer. Methods: A total of 64 patients with urinary retention after radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer was divided into a navel acupuncture group (22 cases), an acupuncture group (18 cases) and an acupuncture plus navel acupuncture group (24 cases). All three groups received bladder function training and neuromuscular electrical stimulation. In addition, navel points were combined in the navel acupuncture group. Electroacupuncture was conducted to Qihai (CV 6), Zhongji (CV 3), Dahe (KI 12), Shuidao (ST 28), Ciliao (BL 32) and Huiyang (BL 35) in the acupuncture group. The acupuncture plus navel acupuncture group received both treatments. The catheter was removed after 3 d of treatment. Spontaneous urination, residual urine volume, urinary catheter dependence and recurrence after 3 d, 6 d and 9 d of treatment in each group were observed, respectively. Results: In the acupuncture plus navel acupuncture group, the markedly effective rates after 3 d, 6 d and 9 d of treatment were significantly higher than those in the navel acupuncture group and the acupuncture group; the urinary catheter dependence was lower than that of the other two groups, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05, P<0.01); the spontaneous urination time was shorter than that of the navel acupuncture group and the acupuncture group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05, P<0.01); the residual urine volume was significantly less than that of the navel acupuncture group and the acupuncture group, and the differences were statistically significant (both P<0.01). After the catheter was removed, recurrence was observed from the next day after spontaneous urination was resumed. There were 2 cases of recurrence in the navel acupuncture group, 2 cases in the acupuncture group and 1 case in the acupuncture plus navel acupuncture group. The recurrence rate of the acupuncture plus navel acupuncture group was significantly lower than that of the navel acupuncture group and the acupuncture group (both P<0.01). Conclusion: Acupuncture plus navel acupuncture has satisfactory efficacy for urinary retention after radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer. It can significantly shorten the urinary retention time, reduce the patient's dependence on urinary catheter, and reduce the residual urine volume.

ABSTRACT

Purpose To investigate the value of application of D2-40/CD34-CK cocktail antibodies by double immunohistochemical staining for assessment of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) and to determine its prognostic significance in colorectal cancer with insufficient lymph node harvest. Methods Specimens from 133 cases of colorectal cancer with less than 12 lymph nodes were selected. HE staining and double immunohistochemical staining of the cocktail antibodies were performed to compare the difference of the two methods in screening for LVI. The The relationship between LVI confirmed by cocktail antibody immunohistochemical staining and clinicopathological characteristics and overall survival (OS) of patients was analyzed. Results (1) The detection rates of cocktail antibody double immunohistochemical staining and HE staining for LVI were 42.9% (57/133) and 21.8% (29/133) with statistically significant difference (P < 0.001). (2) The presence of LVI confirmed by double staining was significantly associated with Dukes staging, depth of invasion, clinical stages, lymph node metastasis and tumor budding (P < 0.05). (3) The presence of LVI, the location and extent of LVI, and the number of tumor cells in thrombus ≥5.5 for cases with LVI ≤2 clusters, were significantly associated with OS (P < 0.05). Conclusion D2-40/CD34-CK cocktail antibodies double staining is superior to routine HE staining in assessing LVI. LVI is intimately associated with tumor stage, lymph nodes metastasis and tumor budding, and it is an independent prognostic factor for CRC patients. It should be a supplementary examination for these patients with insufficient lymph node harvest.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at Ganshu (BL 18) and Shenshu (BL 23) on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1)/CD31 around the cerebral infarction focus in middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rats and the possible mechanism, thus to provide a new strategy for the treatment of cerebral ischemic stroke by acupuncture. Methods:A total of 180 healthy male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into a sham operation group, a model group, an acupoint group and a non-acupoint group, 45 rats in each group. MCAO model was established using the modified line-embolus method in all rats except for those in the sham operation group; rats in the acupoint group were treated with EA at Ganshu (BL 18) and Shenshu (BL 23); rats in the non-acupoint group were treated with EA at the control points; rats in other 2 groups were only subjected to bundling without treatment. Ten rats in each group were randomly selected on the 3rd day, the 14th day and the 21st day after acupuncture stimulation to test the neurological function impairment. The expression levels of CD31 and VEGF were also detected. Results:Compared with the model group and non-acupoint group, the neurological function score of the acupoint group was decreased at each time point, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05,P<0.01). The expressions of VEGF and CD31 in each group were the lowest on the 3rd day, reached the peak on the 14th day and still remained at high level on the 21st day. And the differences among groups were statistically significant both on the 14th day and the 21st day (P<0.05,P<0.01). Compared with the model group and the non-acupoint group, the expressions of VEGF and CD31 in the acupoint group were increased, and the differences were statistically significant (allP<0.05). Conclusion: EA at Ganshu (BL 18) and Shenshu (BL 23) can significantly improve the neurological function score of MCAO model rats, and shows protective effect on cerebral ischemia. The protective mechanism may be related to the up-regulation of CD31 and VEGF expression around the cerebral infarction focus in the MCAO model rats and induction of angiogenesis.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To observe the effect of acupuncture plus thunder-fire moxibustion on the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) in cartilage of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) rats, and to explore the mechanism of acupuncture plus thunder-fire moxibustion in the treatment of KOA. Methods:Thirty Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into a blank control group, a model group and an acupuncture-moxibustion group by random digits table, 10 rats in each group. Rats in the model group and the acupuncture-moxibustion group were injected with papain in the right posterior knee joint to prepare the models. The levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-1 in rat synovium of each group were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) after 2 weeks of treatment. The level of TGF-β1 was determined by Motic B5 Micro-camera system. Results:The levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-1 in the cartilage of the model group were significantly higher than those in the blank control group (allP<0.01); the levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-1 in the acupuncture-moxibustion group were lower than those in the model group, and the between-group differences were statistically significant (all P<0.05). The levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-1 in the acupuncture-moxibustion group were higher than those in the blank control group, and the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.05). The level of TGF-β1 in cartilage tissues of the model group was significantly lower than that in the blank control group (P<0.01); the level of TGF-β1 in the acupuncture-moxibustion group was higher than that in the model group (P<0.05), but it was lower than that in the blank control group, and the between-group difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture plus thunder-fire moxibustion can effectively recover the abnormal expressions of MMP-3 and TIMP-1 in KOA model rats and somewhat up-regulate TGF-β1, which may be one of its mechanisms of acupuncture plus thunder-fire for KOA.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the protective effect of moxibustion in initiating the endogenous protection information on gastric mucosa, and its relationship with the pathway of common peroneal nerve. Methods: Forty-eight Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into a normal group (group A), a model group (group B), a moxibustion model group (group C) and a moxibustion model plus surgery group (group D), 12 in each group. Except for group A, rats in the other groups were treated with dehydrated ethanol and aspirin to prepare gastric mucosal damage model. The rats in group B were not treated with any interventions; rats in group C received moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36), twice a day for continuous 3 d. The rats in group D were subjected to preparing the gastric mucosal damage model after the common peroneal nerve transection, followed by moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36). After a 3-day intervention, ulcer index (UI) in each group was observed, and the levels of gastric mucosa-related repair cytokines of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-4 (IL-4) and heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) were detected. Results: Compared with group A, the pathological changes and UI of group B were worse (P=0.000), but TNF-α in serum and tissue was changed significantly (P=0.000,P=0.002), IL-4 in serum and tissue was improved significantly (P=0.000, P=0.000). Compared with group B, TNF-α and IL-4 in group C and group D were significantly improved (TNF-α:P=0.003, P=0.016; IL-4:P=0.000,P=0.002). Compared with group C, the changes of UI in group B and group D were poor (both P=0.000); the levels of TNF-α and IL-4 in serum were significantly decreased (TNF-α:P=0.000,P=0.025; IL-4:P=0.000, P=0.034); and tissue HSP70 levels were decreased significantly (P=0.000,P=0.033).Conclusion: Zusanli (ST 36) can transmit information through the pathway of common peroneal nerve, regulate the release of gastric mucosal protective factors, and up-regulate the expression of cytothesis-related proteins, so as to achieve the effect in repairing gastric mucosa.

ABSTRACT

@#This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of total alkaloids(TA)and one of the active components, neotuberostemonine, of Stemona tuberosa on bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in mice and to explore the mechanism by fibroblasts model. The bleomycin-induced mice were orally administered with TA(60 mg/kg)and neotuberostemonine(10, 20 mg/kg), with prednisone(6. 67 mg/kg)as a positive control. The anti-fibrotic effects were assessed by hydroxyproline content, TGF-β1 level, inflammatory score, collagen deposition and the expression of α-SMA in the lung tissues. The results revealed that TA and neotuberostemonine could significantly ameliorate the inflammation and injury, and attenuate the hydroxyproline content and collagen deposition. Moreover, neotuberostemonine treatment markedly down-regulated the α-SMA level and TGF-β1 content in bleomycin-injured mice lungs. The in vitro experiments showed that neotuberostemonine inhibited the expression of α-SMA induced by TGF-β1 in a dose-dependent manner, indicating that suppression on differentiation of fibroblasts to myofibroblasts may be one of the mechanisms for neotuberostemonine against pulmonary fibrosis.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>As a traditional Chinese medicine, Cordyceps sinensis (CS) possesses a variety of immunoregulatory properties. This study aimed to explore the therapeutic potential of CS in a mice model of multiple sclerosis (MS)-experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Female C57BL/6 mice were immunized with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein35-55to induce EAE, followed by an instant intragastric feeding with a low dosage of CS (low-CS group, n = 5), high dosage of CS (high-CS group, n = 5), or the same volume of normal saline (control group, n = 5). All the mice were observed for clinical assessment. Over the 30 days of CS treatment, flow cytometry was used to detect the frequency of helper T-cell (Th) subsets, Th1 and Th17, and CD4+ CD25+ regulatory T cells in the spleen and lymph nodes. Meanwhile, pathological changes in brain were determined using both hematoxylin-eosin and luxol fast blue staining. Data were analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Over the 15 and 30 days of CS treatment, the clinical assessment for EAE demonstrated that both high-CS group (2.51 ± 0.31 and 2.26 ± 0.39 scores, respectively) and low-CS group (2.99 ± 0.40 and 2.69 ± 0.46, respectively) had lower disease severity scores than those of control group (3.57 ± 0.53 and 3.29 ± 0.53, all P < 0.01, respectively). Meanwhile, after 15 and 30 days, the high-CS group (19.18 ± 1.34 g and 20.41 ± 1.56 g, respectively) and low-CS group (18.07 ± 1.18 g and 19.48 ± 1.69 g, respectively) had a lower body weight, as compared with control group (16.85 ± 1.15 g and 18.22 ± 1.63 g, all P < 0.01, respectively). At 30 days post-CS treatment, there was a lower Th1 frequency in the lymph nodes (2.85 ± 1.54% and 2.77 ± 1.07% vs. 5.35 ± 1.34%, respectively; P < 0.05) and spleens (3.96 ± 1.09% and 3.09 ± 0.84% vs. 5.07 ± 1.50%, respectively; P < 0.05) and less inflammatory infiltration and demyelination in the brain of CS-treated mice than that of control group.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Our preliminary study demonstrated that CS efficiently alleviated EAE severity and EAE-related pathology damage and decreased the number of Th1s in the periphery, indicating its effectiveness in the treatment of murine EAE. Thus, our findings strongly support the therapeutic potential of this agent as a new traditional Chinese medicine approach in MS treatment.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of warm needling moxibustion plus flash cupping for remission-stage peripheral facial paralysis (FP) due to wind-cold. Methods:Fifty eligible patients were randomized into a warm needling moxibustion group and an acupuncture-cupping group, 25 cases in each group. The warm needling moxibustion group was intervened by acupuncture at Fengchi (GB 20), Yangbai (GB 14) towards Yuyao (EX-HN 4), Xiaguan (ST 7), Dicang (ST 4) towards Jiache (ST 6), Quanliao (SI 18), and Hegu (LI 4), plus warm needling moxibustion at Quanliao (SI 18); the acupuncture-cupping group received flash cupping on the affected side in addition to the intervention given to the warm needling moxibustion group. The two groups were both treated once a day, 10 times as a treatment course, for 3 courses in total. The House-Brackmann (H-B) facial nerve grading system was observed before and after the intervention to evaluate the facial nerve function in the two groups, and the therapeutic efficacies were also compared between the two groups. Results:The two treatment protocols both can promote the recovery of facial nerve function. The total effective rate was 92.0% in the acupuncture-cupping group versus 72.0% in the warm needling moxibustion group, and the between-group difference was statistically significant (P Conclusion:Warm needling moxibustion plus flash cupping can produce a more significant efficacy than dry warm needling moxibustion in treating remission-stage peripheral FP due to wind-cold.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on the expression of erythropoie-tin-producing hepatocyte receptor B2 (EphB2) in the cortex around the infracted area of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rats at different timing, and to reveal the possible mechanism of acupuncture in the treatment of cerebral ischemia. Methods:A total of 180 male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into a sham operation group, a model group, an acupoint group and a non-acupoint group, with 45 rats in each group. Rats in each group were further divided into three subgroups: postoperative 3 d, postoperative 14 d and postoperative 21 d groups, with 15 rats in each subgroup. The MCAO model was made by the modified occlusion method. The neurological function score, 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining, immunohistochemistry assay, immunofluorescence double labeling method and Western blot were used to detect the corresponding indicators. Results:The neurological impairment of rats was most obvious at postoperative 3 d, and then gradually improved with time, which was more significant in the acupoint group (P Conclusion:Electroacupuncture at Ganshu (BL 18) and Shenshu (BL 23) can significantly improve the neurological function and cerebral infarcted volume ratio of MCAO rats, which may be related to the activation of EphB2 expression in cortex around the infracted area and the promotion of synaptic remodeling.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the expression of voltage-gated potassium channel Kv3.4 and to determine its significance in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and precancerous lesions.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Immunohistochemical SP methods were performed to detect the expression of Kv3.4 at tissue level on 57 paraffin-embedded samples collected from Pathology Department of Anhui Province Stomatological Hospital during January 2013 to June 2014. The relationships between the expression of Kv3.4 and precancerous lesion and clinical pathologic factors of oral squamous cell carcinoma, such as pathologic classification, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis, were also analyzed. Totally 6 samples of normal oral mucosa tissue, 23 samples of OSCC and 13 samples of precancerous lesions were collected from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University during May 2014 to March 2015. Real-time quantitative PCR and Western blotting were used to detect the expression of Kv3.4 in these 42 samples at molecular and protein levels.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Real-time quantitative PCR showed the relative expression quantity of Kv3.4 in normal oral mucosa, precancerous lesions, and OSCC tissues were 0.85±0.48, 3.50±2.51 and 18.48±7.70, respectively. The relative expression quantity of Kv3.4 in OSCC and precancerous lesions were higher than that in normal group, the differences were both statistically significant (P=0.002, P=0.029). The relative expression quantities of Kv3.4 protein in precancerous and OSCC tissues were 0.87±0.14 and 0.35±0.03 respectively by Western blotting, and both were higher than that in normal tissues (0.18±0.10). The differences were statistically significant (P=0.002). In 57 paraffin-embedded samples, the positive expression rates of Kv3.4 in normal, precancerous and OSCC tissues were 2/6, 13/18 and 95% (37/39), respectively. The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). However, the expression of Kv3.4 did not show obvious correlation with patients' genders, presence of lymph node metastasis and clinical stages (P>0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The expression of Kv3.4 is positively correlated to OSCC's occurrence and development. Detection of the expression of Kv3.4 may be used for early diagnosis and prognostic judgment of oral squamous cell carcinoma and precancerous lesions.</p>

ABSTRACT

This article provides the possible mechanism of acupuncture-moxibustion repair of gastric mucosal injury from central regulation and puts it forward that the nucleus of solitary tract is the primary regulation center for the injury repair and has the effect of collecting and integrating information. In addition, it is put forward that neural regulation is a main regulatory mechanism for the injury repair and besides, endocrine, immune and humoral regulations participates in the modulation and gastric mucosal repair involves a composite regulatory mechanism in which the central nervous system, neuroendocrine-immune network and neurohumoral regulation take part.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of brain-benefiting and collateral-unblocking needling technique for chronic alcoholic gastritis complicated with depression. Methods:A total of 92 cases with chronic alcoholic gastritis complicated with depression were included in this trial. They were randomly allocated into an observation group (n=46) and a control group (n=46) by random number (envelope) method. Patients in the observation group received the brain-benefiting and collateral-unblocking needling technique. Scalp points included Shenting (GV 24), Xinhui (GV 22), Qianding (GV 23), Baihui (GV 20), Chengguang (BL 6), Tongtian (BL 7) and Luoque (BL 8). Body points included Neiguan (PC 6), Zusanli (ST 36), Zhongwan (CV 12), Gongsun (SP 4), Shenmen (HT 7), Daling (PC 7), Qimen (LR 14), Xinshu (BL 15) and Taichong (LR 3). The control group only received the same body acupuncture as the observation group. The treatment was conducted once a day, 30 min for each treatment, and 10 times made up a course of treatment. The efficacy was observed after 3 courses of treatment, and there was a 2-d interval between two courses. Results:After 3 courses of treatment, the clinical symptoms and gastroscopic features were significantly improved in the observation group than that in the control group. The clinical efficacy, self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) were significantly better than those in the control group (allP<0.05). Conclusion:The brain-benefiting and collateral-unblocking needling technique can significantly improve clinical symptoms in patients with chronic alcoholic gastritis complicated with depression and substantially alleviate their gastroscopic features, anxiety and depression.

ABSTRACT

Objective To systematically review the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture plus rehabilitation in treating post-stroke spasm and to summarize the commonly-used acupoints.Method The randomized controlled trials and quasi-randomized trials of acupuncture plus rehabilitation for post-stroke spasm published from January 1 of 2005 to December 31 of 2014 in China were retrieved from CNKI, WanFang database, and VIP database, etc. by using computer. The eligible studies were recruited for review. Result Totally 15 studies were enrolled. The Meta-analysis showed that the most commonly used acupoints in acupuncture treatment for post-stroke spasm were Quchi (LI 11), Jianyu (LI 15), Hegu (LI 4), Tianjing (TE 10), Waiguan (TE 5), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Chize (LU 5), and so on. Compared to the controls, acupuncture plus rehabilitation had significantly better effective rate [OR=3.13, 95%CI (2.00,4.89),P<0.00001], recovery rate [OR=2.42, 95%CI (1.53,3.83),P=0.0002], MAS score [MD=﹣0.48, 95%CI (﹣0.62,﹣0.35),P<0.00001], FMA score [MD=5.58, 95%CI (4.96,6.20),P<0.00001], and NDS score [SMD=﹣0.68,95%CI (﹣0.91,﹣0.44),P<0.00001].Conclusion Acupuncture plus rehabilitation can effectively mitigate the post-stroke spasm and is worth promoting in clinic; more high-quality researches are expected as the quality of the currently recruited trials is not so satisfactory.
